2016 Action Movies

January 2016

  • Ride Along 2
    action comedy January 15
"As his wedding day approaches, Ben heads to Miami with his soon-to-be brother-in-law James to bring down a drug dealer who's supplying the dealers of Atlanta with product." Ice Cube and Kevin Hart are at it again. Looks funny as hell!

February 2016

  • Deadpool
    action adventure comedy  February 12
"A former Special Forces operative turned mercenary is subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopting the alter ego 'Deadpool'." Funny all the way through, Ryan Reynolds is just charming enough to make Deadpool loveable and not a douchebag. I was afraid I would hate him, but I've seen it twice and I want to see it again.  The Action is really enjoyable; the insults, hilarious.  You just gotta love it.  The opening credits are the best. The opening action sequence, that keeps getting interrupted, is the best thing I've seen since The Raid 2 (2014).

  • Hour of Vengeance
    action  February 16
"The story focuses on an angry mob boss who is ripped off by his own people, so in retaliation Mr. Scorello, gets even with those who have wronged him the only way he knows best . . . by killing them! Mr. Scorello calls in a professional hit man to clean house. A violent bloodbath of revenge follows as "Max Stryker" delivers a brand of justice that is best served hot.. with lead that is! Prepare for an action adventure you won't soon forget." Synopsis by Writer, Director, Star Bradley Creanzo (as Max Stryker)

  • Triple 9
crime thriller . . . they are going to have to add: action  February 26
"A gang of criminals and corrupt cops plan the murder of a police officer in order to pull off their biggest heist yet across town." The trailer is intense.  A must see.  Heat from 1995 comes to mind . . .

March 2016

    Weaponized
    action sci-fi thriller March 1
"A damaged homicide detective (Johnny Messner) must prevent a grieving father from unleashing a "robotic virus" that he believes will destroy the terrorist cell that murdered his son, but at an unimaginable cost."  Also stars Tom Sizemore, Mickey Rourke,  Michael Paré, and John Foo. Stunt Coordinator Joe Perez (II).

  • London Has Fallen
    action crime thriller March 4
"In London for the Prime Minister's funeral, Mike Banning discovers a plot to assassinate all the attending world leaders."
  •   Starring Gerard Butler, and Aaron Eckhart, this movie looks like it upholds the Action Movie standard in the Super Cop subgenre: Protecting the President at all costs. With Butler's 'merry quips', it should be spot on: "You should have brought more men." I love this movie already!

  • Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

    action adventure fantasy March 25
Sorry fanboys, I'm going with Superman for the win, however, I am most psyched to see AQUAMAN, my favorite. Trying to overlook the casting and costume of Wonder Woman (disappointing)! We've waited so long to see Batman versus Superman. That title is enough, but when they add Dawn of Justice, it just makes me super excited for the long-awaited Justice League movie. Aw yeah! DC baby!! The Justice League Part One (17 November 2017)

April 2016

  • Hardcore Henry
    action crime drama April 8
"A first-person action film from the eyes of Henry, who's resurrected from death with no memory. He must discover his identity and save his wife from a warlord with a plan to bio-engineer soldiers."  This first-person movie is the inevitable full-length shot of the Biting Elbows video "Bad Motherfucker". The People's Choice at TIFF's Midnight Madness, it should be everything we hope for.

  • Criminal
    action crime drama April 15
The memories & skills of a deceased CIA agent (Ryan Reynolds) are implanted into an unpredictable and dangerous convict (Kevin Costner). This looks like old school Action starring old school Actors. Just what I want! Costner at the top of his game.

May 2016

  • Captain America: Civil War
    action thriller  May 6
What an excellent series. This movie is everything you hope it will be! Loved Black Panther but Spider-Man stole the show. I'm very excited for the Black Panther movie and the "98% African-American" cast!  I wonder if Michael Jai White loved it too? I still think he would have been awesome—not to take anything away from Chadwick Boseman's performance, which was stellar!

  • The Nice Guys
    action comedy crime  May 20
"A mismatched pair of private eyes investigate the apparent suicide of a fading porn star in 1970s Los Angeles." Russell Crowe, Ryan Gosling, and Director/Writer Shane Black. It's like time travel if you were old enough to remember 1977.

  • X-Men: Apocalypse
action adventure fantasy sci-fi May 27
They're giving us the 'Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse'.  "With the emergence of the world's first mutant, Apocalypse, the X-Men must unite to defeat his extinction level plan."

June 2016

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows
    action adventure comedy June 3
"The Turtles return to save the city from a dangerous threat."

  • Warcraft
    action adventure fantasy June 10
"The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people, and their home."

  • Central Intelligence
(NOT action?) comedy crime June 17
"After he reunites with an old pal through Facebook, a mild-mannered accountant is lured into the world of international espionage." Starring Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson. Loving the "Little Hart / Big Johnson" campaign and all the fun they've been having on Instagram.

  • Games of Aces
    action adventure war June 27
"A rescue attempt of a German traitor during World War I has unexpected consequences and sets off an adventure across the Arabian desert."  It resembles "Flight of the Phoenix" (the original) stylistically (that's a good thing).  Trailer on vimeo.

July 2016

  • Jason Bourne
    action thriller July 29
Matt Damon. Yeah! Looking big and beefy and doing a little Every Which Way But Loose

August 2016

  • Bus Driver
    action
    August 15
"A high school bus on its way to a retreat blows a tire and stops at the nearest ranch for help. The driver, five troubled students, and their ridiculous gym- teacher chaperone find, instead . . ." Stunt Coordinator/Jack-of-all-movie-trades Van White.
  • War Dogs
    comedy drama war
    August 19
"The true story of two young men, David Packouz and Efraim Diveroli, who won a $300 million contract from the Pentagon to arm America's allies in Afghanistan."  It's not labelled "Action" but we can't miss this.  It's like two Regular Joes get dropped into an Action Movie. And, it's rated "R".

  • Mechanic: Resurrection
    action crime thriller  August 26
"Arthur Bishop thought he had put his murderous past behind him when his most formidable foe kidnaps the love of his life. Now he is forced to travel the globe to complete three impossible assassinations, and do what he does best, make them look like accidents."  (I'll see anything with Jason Statham in it!)
  •   Rated "R"!

the magnificent seven 2016

  • The Magnificent Seven
    action western September 23

As such, the score will be the third and final Horner score to be released posthumously."

    November 4
"After his career is destroyed, a brilliant but arrogant and conceited surgeon gets a new lease on life when a sorcerer takes him under her wing and trains him to defend the world against evil." Starring extraordinary actors Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton, and Mads Mikkelsen, plus Actor/Action Figure Scott Adkins!

  • David & Wally: Buddy Cops
    action comedy crime November 8
I'm a sucker for a Buddy Movie but isn't this 21 Jump Street? "Two stupid cops from Boston, seeking action, go undercover as high school students to take down a drug operation that could destroy their lifelong friendship." Gotta get a better title!

  • Koyakatsii
